Skills and Thrills

The Skills and Thrills Career Showcase is an engaging presentation taking careers advice out of the classroom and onto the screen, through an action-packed session of video, animation, music, personal ambassador stories, industry statistics and host engagement.

With both Live shows and Digital Showcases created, SkillsOne works with State Governments to individualise the showcases to the specific State priorities and focus in terms of skills demands, Vocational Education programs and resources.

LIVE SHOWS

The LIVE SHOWCASE usually runs as a dynamic one-hour session, opening with an overview of VET industry trends and information on apprenticeships and traineeships, followed by an engaging film on career pathways.

  • There are Q&A sessions with guest speakers, including State  Training Awards Ambassadors, local industry representatives, SBAT Officers and Training Services/ Department of Industry Representatives/RIEP Officers.

They feature the latest information for students on:

  • Industry trends (for  next 5-15 years)
  • Emerging Careers and Jobs
  • School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)
  • Apprenticeships and Traineeships
  • Opportunities in the vocational education and training sector (VET)
  • How to connect your passion to a career pathways from vocational training to university education

DIGITAL SHOWCASE

The Digital Format is:

  • Free via access to a link that the teacher/ advisor requests through the Skills and Thrills landing page.
  • Approximately 30 minutes of a Dynamic and engaging film created by SkillsOne video production team promoting VET. Teachers/ Advisers have shown it in the past years either in 1 session or over a number of sessions. It is totally flexible in how to view it.
  • Includes a handout for careers advisers as an aid to classroom viewing.

The objectives of the showcase are as follows;

  • Provide greater understanding of Vocational Education pathways and careers.
  • Promote VET as a first-choice career pathway.
  • Provide students with job prospects, career pathways and higher learning opportunities.
  • Encourage greater understanding on skills and trade-based opportunities.
  • Promote VET in schools and school- based apprenticeships and traineeships.
  • Encourage students in rural or remote areas into vocational skills and trades (increase VET enrolment).
  • Promote jobs in regional economies.
  • Promote and support regional skills and job development.
  • Encourage uptake equally of VET through TAFE and private training.
  • Change the perception and outdated myths associated with vocational education and training.
