NSW Training award Winner- Mellanie Sutton on traineeships and further studies: Environmental Health Officer

Mellanie's journey from mature aged trainee in Local Government to her latest education program- double degree in criminology and law and the role VET played.

"Being a mature age student,I really just wanted to be a lawyer. it wasn't something that I thought was gonna be,an opportunity for me based on my schooling experience. But now I'm actually enrolled in a double bachelor's degree in criminology and law. And that has that has started because of my traineeship. You know,I've become an environmental health officer. I've learnt all my legislation through this role, and then I've found that I have a real knack for picking up legislation and putting it into practice. So I applied. I use my existing knowledge for my traineeship and I am pretty much where I want to  be."
