Still Life: Kalgoorlie Miners
Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) manages 'The Super Pit' -- an open cut gold mine located at the south-east corner of the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder about 600kms east of Perth, Western Australia.
KCGM produces up to 850,000 ounces of gold every year and its operation far outweighs any other mining centre in Australia.
The Super Pit is the biggest gold open pit mine in the country. It is mined 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The company's operations ensure Australia holds its place behind South Africa and the USA, as the third biggest gold producer in the world.
With over 550 personnel working on site, KCGM provides numerous employment opportunities which can be explored via their website - www.superpit.com.au
In particular, KCGM offers apprenticeships for heavy duty diesel mechanics and boilermakers in their Open Pit Maintenance area and has links with Roche (JR) Engineering for apprenticeships in the Mineral Processing/Engineering Department.
