The Great Waiters Race returns to Sydney in 2011 on May 15th
Following the outstanding success of last May’s inaugural Great Waiters Race at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay in support of the McGrath Foundation, planning for GWR II to be held on Sunday May 15 at the OPT is well underway with $20,000.00 in prizes making the Sydney Event one of the richest in the world thanks to De Bortoli Wines, I travel, BHG, The Ivy, Star City and Hilton
Enquiries have been received from leading Parisian Hotel George V re nominating two of their best waiters also legendary Champs – Elysees restaurant Fouquet’s have made an enquiry about nominating for the Sydney Great Waiters Race following glowing reports of the inaugural Sydney Race last May from French journalist Monsieur Gerald Georges who acted as Chief Commissaire for the OPT event last May.
80 waiters from the CBD’s top hotels andr estaurants are amongst the early entries for GWR II next March once again in support of The McGrath Foundation. Organisers Events du Monde are targeting 200 entrants and have opened the event to include TAFE hospitality students with ultimo two teams of ten and Sutherland one team of ten.
A sister city relationship has been set up with French seaside city of Pornic where elite waiters from all over Europe compete each August in front of a massive holiday crowd of 50,000 and televised live in Northern France.
The winners male and female of Sydney’s GWRII to run over 2km will be flown to France by itravel to compete in the French Grand Prix race at Pornic on August 4, 2011. The 2nd place getters will be flown to New Caledonia to contest similar event.
