WorldSkills Australia Nationals – Brisbane 2010 – Electrical Installation

Marc has completed 3.5 years of the trade and will be finishing it off this year. He is from Hobart and his TAFE introduced him to WorldSkills.

Marc got interested in the trade after doing an electronics course in college. A family friend was an electrician but otherwise there’s no connection. He moved to Hobart from Bicheno (on the east coast) to pursue the trade

He works for a national company which does a lot large commercial and industrial work (His mentor is from his work). Marc just completed a large job on a hospital.

Marc says electrical installation is mentally stimulating. There is a mathematics component but basically you must be ‘switched on’ (excuse the pun). He’s glad he’s working on the big projects rather than just wiring up houses.

Marc believes that WorldSkills opens up doors so he’s interested to see where it will take him. He likes to be put under pressure (work deadlines etc) but is not used to being in a competition.
