WorldSkills Australia Nationals – Brisbane 2010 – Graphic design technology

Whilst at school, Nick was doing some graphic design but he felt that he wasn’t learning what he needed to. His uncle is a director at a printing company and so he started there three quarters of the way through year11.

Nick is a creative person, he used to draw at school and also plays guitar, base and drums since about grade5. He plays metal, jazz and rock. His band is playing in the battle of the bands in June and he’s been writing their songs.

Nick enjoys the creative freedom of designing and particularly using up-to-date technology. He is excited about using his graphic design skills, to host websites, publicity stuff.

He mainly does news paper advertisements at work but is also building websites (he can do the coding as well as design side – which is unusual for graphic designers).

Nick entered the regional WorldSkills competition through RMIT. He enjoyed doing the first competition project and it all went from there. Nick is feeling pretty prepared for WorldSkills. His game plan is to have a good night sleep and then spend as little time as possible on the modules (other than the ones that give the most points).
