Girls with Spark – Electrical Trades

Women NSW collaborated with Ausgrid on a range of initiatives designed to promote employment and support for women in trades.

With Women NSW's support, Ausgrid hosted the first Women in Trades Work Experience Week in November 2012 at their learning centre in Silverwater. Female high school and TAFE students were able to experience the work of electrical mechanics, cable jointers and line workers. The women also gained important hands-on experience in constructing extension leads and wiring light and power circuits.

SkillsOne visited the participants while they were getting a very special visit from the Hon Pru Goward MP. Minister for Women.

This initiative was a fantastic opportunity for women of all ages thinking of trying their hand at a trade.
