Unity Through Sustainable Living
We meet Royal Easter Show veteran, Beryl Schaefer O.A.M, of the Southern Districts, who discusses the importance of the Show as well as vitality of sustainable living in unifying Australia.
Beryl has been involved in the Easter Show for over 40 years - she started off riding horses and has worked on various displays since then. She's made lots of different jams and jellies, has won a few awards, then went growing flowers, then veggies.
Beryl believes that awards are very important to industry and agriculture as it broadcasts to the people of the city the sheer role and importance of the country and agriculture and farming.
'Permaculture' (permanent agriculture) is their theme – the idea of growing everything for your own use, sustainable living, everything off the land (self-sufficiency).
