TAFE SWSi Partnering with Sporting Clubs

Rugby League is one of Australia’s most popular football codes, but of the hundreds of young men who play the sport each season only a few are given the chance to put a first grade jersey on. That’s why TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) is working in close partnership with the Wests Tigers NRL club to ensure young players get the skills they need to excel both on and off the field.

One day a week for players from WestsTigers’ Harold Matthew’s (u16) and SG Ball (u18) squads come to TAFE SWSi’s Macquarie Fields College, in South Western Sydney, to gain extra rugby league skills and formal qualifications in sports fitness. The TAFE SWSi program has been designed to increase the players’ chances of progressing through higher levels of rugby league competition and ultimately first grade selection as well as prepare them for a possible future off the field.
