The Melbourne Cup has become a permanent fixture on the Australian sporting, social and cultural calendar. As one of the most watched sporting events each year in Australia, the Melbourne Cup reminds us of the importance of the equine industries to the economy, and the great range of jobs available within these industries.

Career opportunities within the racing industry are extremely diverse. As an industry, horse racing employs over 250,000 Australians each year, ranging from jockeys and trainers to catering, entertainment and grounds staff, first aid, media, security and more.
