On March 26that 8:30pm Sydney cellist and artistic director of the Bach in the Dark concert series, Rachel Scott, will join writer David Malouf ina fundraising concert for Earth Hour at one of Sydney’s most beautiful historicbuildings, St James King St
Earth Hour is an annual event organisedby the World Wildlife Fund to promote environmental awareness. On March26th from 8:30-9:30pm the public has a chance to switch off electriclights and reflect on the impact of human existence on planet earth.
Bach in the Dark is about taking ajourney with cellist Rachel Scottinto the world of one of classical music’s most revered composers, J.S.Bach. In the softly-lit crypt of St James King St, Sydney’s oldest church,audiences are transported to another realm where the outside world takes a backseat, and stillness and reflection are within reach.
On March 26that 8:30pm Bach in the Dark will join the Earth Hour cause and combine words,music and candlelight in an original collaboration between artists of differentgenres. In the main church of St James King St, Rachel will perform with David Malouf,combining Bach’s music with words by one of Australia’s most acclaimed writersin a tribute to planet earth and the beauty of art that belongs to all ofhumanity. Entry is by donation and allprofits go to World Wildlife Fund.

Rachel is anaccomplished cellist and music educator who is dedicated to bringing qualitymusic to underserved audiences. Sheperforms regularly as a recitalist with well-known Australian musicians, andhas a busy schedule teaching marginalised and at-risk children children inSydney and regional NSW. She also worksin East Timor setting up children’s music programs with the Sisters of MaryMacKillop Mission.
Rachel’s dedication towidening classical music audiences was the inspiration for the Bach in the Darkconcert series. The series has made anotable impact by generating a loyal and growing audience, 90% of whom are notregular concert-goers.
