For more than 30 years she has worked in the hospitality industry in both Australia and the United Kingdom as a chef, manager and trainer. Since 2005 she has been providing off-the-job training in Commercial Cookery to apprentice chefs from the Margaret River region.

Through her training, Amanda aims to give students an appreciation and understanding of the South West’s local produce. In her highly practical ‘Paddock to Plate’ class, students meet with farmers, foragers, olive oil experts, truffle growers and vignerons. Students also have the opportunity to press grapes and hunt for truffles and native bush foods indigenous to the area. At the conclusion of this unit, students prepare a long table lunch for local producers and chefs using their new found skills.

To continue her professional development, Amanda recently visited China as a guest chef and also spent a week in Singapore where she had the opportunity to visit the At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy

View Video

It was there that my dream of becoming a chef was made reality. I trained under some great chefs who encouraged me to follow my passion.

After a year and a half of hard work I then moved on to the Hunter Valley – a food and wine region where I began working at Margan Estate. Margan has opened my eyes to a whole new way of cooking, working with the company’s philosophy of ‘Estate grown – Estate made’. There is no better feeling than walking to the garden and picking fresh fruit and vegetables, having to hand wash the dirt off them yourself, and collecting eggs that are so fresh, you can still feel the warmth of them just being laid.

Working alongside incredible chefs in a small kitchen of 4 has given me the opportunity to refine my skills, learning new things every day. Throughout my whole apprenticeship I have had a flair and love for pastry. I love seeing the happiness on peoples faces when they eat my desserts, especially my cakes. I have only recently begun making specialty cakes for friends birthdays, which take an immeasurable amount of time and effort – however the final result is definitely worth it. I plan to start a pastry qualification as soon as possible and hope to do extra chocolate, sugar work and cake decorating courses.

Once I finish my apprenticeship with HTN I hope to travel the world, work with great chefs and gain as much experience as I can. I would encourage everyone who has a passion for food to start an apprenticeship. It brings on so many opportunities and will follow you anywhere in the world you want to go – as people will always need to eat.

View Video

I was after a trade that would be continuously challenging and would really expand my knowledge base. While a Certificate III Apprenticeship in Plumbing is not the first thing that comes to mind for most 17 year old girls, I felt this trade would not only deliver a challenging environment but would also contribute to developing workforce skills such as organisational management, customer service, and teamwork.

CIT has designated areas designed specifically for training plumbers in real work environments meaning the training in the “classroom” could be transferred directly to the field which was great. The methods of delivery were flexible as were the teachers. I am now in the process of completing my Certificate IV in Plumbing." Her songs offer guitar driven anthems, commercial hooks and poetic lyrical content.

Her debut single, 'Hurricane' is to be released nationally on October 17. There are high expectations for the single, recently winning Second place for in the world-wide John Lennon Songwriting Competition – Pop Music Category.

Despite chronic ear problems and trouble hearing, Michaela was born with a determination to succeed in the music industry. She has received acknowledgement for her talent from a young age - not just from her family and friends, but high profile industry professionals. In 2007 she was a winner in the ACMF National Songwriting Competition which gave her the opportunity and the impetus to really push forward.

Michaela is passionate about the impact music can have on people, especially kids and has filled the role of Youth Ambassador for the Australian Children's Music Foundation since 2008.

The release of her debut single will coincide with being a judge for the 2011 ACMF National Songwriting Competition alongside Ian 'Dicko' Dickson and Peter Garrett MP.

To hear the sample mix of her EP, please visit:

soundcloud.com/makb/michaela-baranov-showreel

Communicate with Michaela:

http://twitter.com/#!/mbaranov

http://www.facebook.com/people/Michaela-A-K-Baranov/1147560576

http://www.myspace.com/michaelabaranov

michaelabaranov.com

View Video
