Pitch Perfect

SkillsOne visits Junction Oval in Melbourne to talk to Toby Lumsden, Turf Supervisor and Curator.

After extensive travel including turf care at Lords in England, Toby now calls Junction Oval home and discusses how he gets the best out of his pitch and present world-standard conditions for players.

Toby started a Horticulture course which led to an apprenticeship looking after 8 bowling club greens. It allowed him to learn everything about grass, lawns and plants.

A highlight for Toby is seeing cricket and football greats in his workplace - the Oval! He spends a lot of time preparing wickets during summer and football conditions at other times of year.

It's a great way to combine a passion for horticulture with sports if you have a close attention to detail.
