Preserving the Pilbara's Heritage
Grant Prellar is a compliance superintendant for heritage who works with crew of Aboriginal monitors. He looks at the sites, runs an induction process, manages the implementation of regulations and negotiates issues with the Department of Indigenous Affairs.
Grant, who has a degree in social science, had been trying to get into mining for a while, and got his big break 7 years ago. He scored a job with FMGL because they were just looking for people who are keen, which is what Grant is. In his job, he has learnt an enormous amount about the Aboriginal culture and finds it really interesting.
SkillsOne visited tradies who work in the mining industry in the Pilbarra, in Western Australia, run by Fortescue Metals Group.
