Teaching Little Dance Stars
Here we see dance techniques instructed to two and three year olds by a top Sydney performing arts school teacher.
Tahnee Wilson high-kicked her way to the Moulin Rouge now she’s inspiring little stars at Brent Street, a theatre which, for 20 years, has been committed to developing performing artists of the highest standard internationally.
Among the thousands of graduates over the years, a large percentage realise their dreams and forged professional careers in the arts and entertainment industries.
The variety of classes and courses on offer is enormous and includes a beginners class for 3 year olds and a Full Time Cert IV Performing Arts Course, Full Time Classical and Contemporary course and the very exciting Talent Development High School.
Brent Street also houses a professional production group and talent agency, so students are exposed to professional engagements from an early age. Over the past 20 years Brent Street kids have gone on to appear in hit shows like ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and ‘Australian Idol’.
Tahnee has been teaching dance since she was twelve at her home studio in the Gold Coast and has had a successful career in performing. She impressively graced the stage at the Moulin Rouge in Paris.
At Brent Street, she develops classes to suit the age group of her students. To avoid boredom, instead of traditional dance steps, Tahnee gets the kids looking for fairies, collecting flowers and flying into space. Her philosophy behind this fun approach is to inspire the kids to develop rhythm, play with movement and learn to love dance before they are taught precise techniques.
The classes have become so innovative and fun that the stage mums all stay around to watch the learning and performance in action.
Tahnee says cheerfully that her real skill when it comes to being a good dance teacher is just ‘being one of the kids’.
