On Friday 13th May, as part of the prestigious Head on Photo Festival and in celebration of its 120th anniversary, TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute will be hosting a sensational food photography workshop with anniversary ambassador, photographer Penelope Beveridge.
See how a professional can make your mouth water just by shooting an image, and treat yourself to delectable drinks and canapés while you watch her at work. Learn some trade secrets as you experience a top food photographer taking incredible stylised images right before your eyes.
Originally trained at Ultimo College, Ms Beveridge is now the Director of Australian Commercial and Media Photographers and an awarded professional, recently receiving seven honourable achievements in the International Photography Awards, New York and winning the professional division of the Sydney Morning Herald Shoot the Chef competition. Her images have featured as advertisements in Donna Hay, Gourmet Traveller, New Idea, Inside, Belle, Delicious and many trade magazines and her work varies from shooting for top restaurants and food/beverage clients to celebrity chefs.
Open to the public, this ticketed event at The Muse, Ultimo College will appeal to foodies and photographers alike. Are you passionate about food and photography? Love devouring culinary magazines and cookbooks, entranced by the stunning images of sumptuous dishes? Fancy having a go yourself? Or already taking photos of your creations but not quite getting the right effect? Whether foodie or photographer this workshop is for you!
Penelope says she is keen to “share my passion for photography and give you great insider tips on how to style your dishes to look absolutely delicious. I’ll use the workshop to show you essential lighting techniques, how to build up your sets, the use of props and camera angles and lens selection. I want participants to go home inspired to try out new techniques, confident that they can master lighting, composition and styling to create compelling food images.”
Gastronomy, the award-winning Sydney-based catering company, will provide food to be photographed with drinks sponsored by Shaw Vineyard. Event attendees will also have the chance to experience a private viewing of the Institute’s Captured graduate photography exhibition.
Running from 5th – 15th May Captured will showcase the wide breadth of experience held by our graduates and their careers within photo journalism, portraiture and commercial work. The exhibit includes images by Penelope Beveridge as well as our other photography ambassadors, Stuart Humphreys (senior photographer at the Australian Museum and a previous finalist in the Head On Alternative Portrait Prize) and Hamish Ta-mé (rated as one of Capture magazine’s top ten fashion photographers and currently exhibiting work at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra).
