More often than not, HTN’s apprentice chefs tell me that they have aspirations to be the Executive Chef of a Hotel or that they want to own their very own Restaurant.
Whilst this is admirable my response these days is “Why stop there?” Careers in Hospitality are only limited by two things: Imagination and determination.
I am fortunate to know a number of talented Chefs who have been promoted beyond the kitchen to the role of General Manager in a five star hotel as well as others who now run successful hospitality consultancies. Many have also become leaders in the area of Vocational Education and Training. The success of these Chefs can be attributed to the fact that they each were committed to ongoing professional development and more importantly, were enthusiastic about exploring the plethora of career options across the hospitality sector.
There really are plenty of vehicles available to get you where you want to go in your hospitality career too. For example; Sydney and Northern Sydney Institutes of TAFE have recently partnered to offer a number of people who are working in the cookery and hospitality industries an exciting opportunity to participate in the Appetite for Success Program. This exciting and industry driven program will provide participants with a high profile mentor, industry networking opportunities, flexible workshops and a tailored learning plan to support the development of first class leadership skills. Participants will graduate from the program with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Hospitality.
This unique opportunity will assist participants to aspire to new heights and will support them to realize that this is a career without limits.
