LET's increase pre-apprentice commercial cookery training and not before time

And now that we are seeing future recovery for a range of sectors in Tourism and Hospitality, we need to catch up training and especially in Commercial Cookery. We need to increase pre-apprenticeships in Commercial Cookery across the nation – and especially on the East Coast.

Now that there are (some) surplus training facilities available –this is the time to re-introduce a suite of training solutions with industry as we energise the future direction of Tourism and Hospitality in Australia.

This includes pre-apprentice training, “Post Trade” Commercial Cookery programmes and other exercises.

The pre-apprentice trade programme – up to 12 weeks of full time training allows the student to enter industry with substantial credit for time served in the apprenticeship. Pre-apprenticeships inCommercial Cookery have been successfully conducted for 25 years and future programmes willrequire additional Federal Government funding. The successes of pre-apprenticeship training inCommercial Cookery are a partnership between apprentice and the employer and have the full support of the industry.
