Aquaculture - The Fishy Truth
SkillsOne visits North Melbourne Institute of Tafe, in Epping, Victoria to discuss their Aquaculture course and facilities.
Andrew Christie, Research Officer for the TAFE's Aquaculture Training and Applied Research Centre, explains that aquaculture is the study and farming of fish/animals and plants in an aquatic environment.
Course participants and trainees express how aquaculture is an interesting, different and very hands-on profession, drawing on science, biology, chemistry and an appreciation of animals - especially aquatic creatures - and the environment.
North Melbourne Tafe is unique in its offering of this course - which is a Bachelor degree - meaning that it is not necessary to enrol in a university to study aquaculture.
