Skills shortage calls for more School Based Apprentices & Trainees
Alex Dagger, aged 16, is the only School Based Trainee at Kordia Telecommunications, standing him in good stead for employment after school. The telecommunications industry has recognised the skills shortage as an opportunity to skill up school students and fill employment gaps.
“It is extraordinarily important to skill up the next generation of employees. We have a massive gap in IT and telecommunications staff in Australia at the moment. If there is a gap now then you can expect there will be a gap in the future. By encouraging people to upskill themselves in these trades we can then train them to become the next generation of IT and telecommunications staff,” says Kristen Rhodes, Kordia Communications Manager.
Alex is also completing a high-level qualification as part of his School Based Traineeship. Once he finishes his Certificate IV in Telecommunications Networks Technology qualification and his on-the-job training Alex will be in high demand in the Telecommunications industry.
