Youthbuild with HIA

Youth build is an initiative of the Housing Industry Association (HIA) in which young people learn and gain practical experience in the building industry while still at secondary school.

Landcom is seeking to promote and assist the program in its projects. Here we meet with Suresh Manickam, he gives us an insight into the whole industry and HIA's great schemes to involve youth in these exciting careers.

About HIA:

The Housing Industry Association is Australia’s largest residential building organisation. Members include builders, trade contractors, design professionals, kitchen and bathroom specialists, and manufacturers & suppliers.

HIA is the Housing Industry Association - the voice of Australia 's home building industry. HIA is unique, as the only national industry association for all building professionals, representing the interests of the whole housing industry - from trade contractors, builders, and suppliers through to product manufacturers.

About HIA Youthbuild:

HIA Youthbuild Foundation brings together industry leaders to drive an innovative “work at school” program based on strong partnerships between schools, industry, business and local communities.

The Foundation will oversee projects that provide new opportunities for young people to enter the industry via real work programs undertaken at school.

Youthbuild aims to:

* Prepare young people for a career in the housing industry

* Enhance local programs working on skills formation

* Create a seamless transition to work

* Increase employment opportunities

* Integrate school and work
