WorldSkills Australia Nationals - Brisbane 2010 - Plumbing and heating
Tom is 17 years old and has just started his 2nd year of apprenticeship with two and half years left at Albury TAFE. He first gave plumbing a go in year 10 when he did work experience. Tom says that he always wanted to get into a trade and really enjoyed the work experience in plumbing in particular.
He enjoys working with his hands and says it isn’t all dirty work (despite the trades reputation), 99% is clean.
His trainer is Tyson Knight. Tyson won a silver medal at the international competition. Tom enjoys working with Tyson but does admit that it adds a bit of pressure. He has been training once or twice a week since last year. He thinks copper work is his biggest strength in the competition.
In the future, Tom hopes to have his own business.
