Managing the Big Event

Event management is a form of project management - which could result in organising anything from the Olympic Games, to a Hen's Night. Ron Beeldman is a teacher of Event Management in TAFE, who tells us about what is required to master event management. We also hear from students, such as former singer Margaret Urlich, and their motivations in studying this course - and what events they'd like to manage!

About Event Management

Event management is the application of the management practice of project management to the creation and development of festivals and events.

Event Management involves studying the intricacies of the brand, identifying the target audience, devising the event concept, planning the logistics and coordinating the technical aspects before actually executing the modalities of the proposed event.

The recent growth of festivals and events as an industry around the world means that the management can no longer be something put to one side. Events and festivals, such as the Asian Games or the Dubai Shopping Festival, have a large impact on their communities and, in some cases, the whole country.

The industry now includes events of all sizes from the Olympics down to a breakfast meeting for ten business people.

Every industry, charity, society and group will hold events of some type/size in order to market themselves, raise money or celebrate.

Jan Stedry says when it comes to anybody wanting to get involved with PC Support they must study at Tafe. He is currently completing his Diploma at Meadow Bank Tafe in Sydney.  Although the competition he claims has been hard and challenging it has been a lot of fun. He has had to learn new stuff to help him through.

If you have a mind for troubleshooting than Jan says this could be the industry for you.
