From WWII to WS08
SkillsOne hits WorldSkills National Competition in 2008. Here we learn about the history of WorldSkills from Tjerk Dusseldorp, Worldskills International President and also about the present-day creation of WorldSkills from Lincoln Costello, Operations Manager of WorldSkills in Sydney, 2008.
Lucy Nash chats to Tjerk Dusseldorp who shares the evolution of WorldSkills - an international competition in order to value teaching and skills. Australia has been involved for 25 years.
If there is an event which brings young people together to achieve their personal and professional best, it is WorldSkills - it is full of energy, cooperation, development and learning.
Mr Dusseldorp's favourite section of WorldSkills this year is joinery - especially with how the industry is treating their waste. Joinery combines old world techniques with new world technologies - including Pine which has been developed to be stronger. The saw dust is compacted to be reused as fuel. This is respecting tradition, but creating new smarter ways to create stronger industries.
We also meet Lincoln Costello, to Worldskills Australia Operations Manager, who shows us around the Worldskills and what's involved in putting it all together.
