The Star Rating Scheme is administered by the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence which recognises outstanding work in trade skills training among TAFE and other registered training organisations (RTOs), by acknowledging the best training providers in each industry. The scheme rates RTOs out of three stars. The best providers can then be seen easily by those in the industry, and those wanting to enter the industry.
The South Western Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW has been given a two gold-star rating for its electrical courses at Miller, and a three gold-star rating for its automotive courses at the Wetherill Park campus.
TAFE NSW Riverina Institute has also been recognised as a leading provider of training in the areas of automotive, construction, metals and engineering, receiving a single gold-star rating for its outstanding trade skills training. Graeme Stuchbery, Riverina's director of educational delivery, said that the gold star was acknowledgment of the high quality teaching at the TAFE.
The Aquaculture section of the North Coast Institute of TAFE NSW, at Trenayr, was also this month presented with a three gold-star rating for its primary industries courses, in acknowledgment of the teachers' innovative approach to learning, and the relevance of courses to the industry. This particular TAFE institute has produced a lot of successful graduates - notably in the Silver Perch industry - from all over the country.
As Brian Wexham, CEO of Institute for Trade Skills Excellence, voiced "It is no secret that there is a skills shortage in Australia, and places like the Trenayr section are providing the right education outcomes to address this shortage."
