Flower power at the SkillsOne launch

Floristry teachers Christina Lewis and Katina Callas from the Sydney Institute of TAFE come with some of their students to the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.

Their goal is to create fantastic floral arrangements for the launch of SkillsOne.

We find out what courses are available in floristry at Sydney Institute and what it takes to create great floral arrangements for events.

What you like to find out more about a career as a florist? Have a look at the MyFuture Occupation Fact Sheet.

Florists prepare floral arrangements such as bouquets, sprays, wreaths or vases of flowers, using live, dried or silk flowers. They also organise the storage, sale and delivery of floral arrangements.

Most florists are employed in small independent florist shops, where they create floral designs to order for individual customers and for events, and create prearranged floral designs to sell to walk-in customers.

A smaller number of florists work for floral wholesalers or servicing supermarkets or internet florists, where they make prearranged bouquets and may also fill special orders.
