Back in Town

Today we meet Shaun McCarthy in the kitchen at Stix Catering where he first commenced his career as an apprentice chef.

Shaun left school in year 11 and studied at Baulkham Hills TAFE, completing a Certificate III in commercial cookery. While at TAFE he did his apprenticeship at Stix Catering in Marrickville, Sydney, where he prepared food for functions and co-ordinated getting food ready for cafes. Shaun did four days a week at Stix and one day a week at TAFE.

He moved to Melbourne after completing his apprenticeship and work as a chef de party for a year at the Reserve restaurant. He then spent a year at Ezard, one of Melbourne's leading restaurants. Shaun then moved to Edinburgh in the UK where he work as a chef for nine months.

Now back in town, he is in Sydney helping out his old boss David Allison at Stix!

Chefing provides one with invaluable skills which can be taken around the world. You are always guaranteed employment in this field, so if you have a aptitude for whipping up a tasty dish, or a general love and creativity for food and nutrition, there are plenty of rewarding avenues that you can consider!
