Life's a Beach

Surfing all day, every day? It's all part of the job for Brenda Miley, who has been running a surf school on Bondi Beach for fifteen years. She takes SkillsOne down to the beach to chat to "Big Wave Dave" Hannagan and find out just what is needed to be a surf instructor - what it's like to teach, to read the surf, and savour the sun and sand.

About Brenda: 

"Lets Go Surfing" surfing school is located on the world famous Bondi Beach. The school was esablished and is run by Brenda Miley.

Brenda has surfed on several continents and has competed in the National Women's Surf Titles. She is President of Bondi Girls Surf riders club and is Women's Director of Surfing Australia. Brenda's qualifications include a Bachelor of Educations (Hons), a Certificate IV in Workplace training, Level 1 and 2 Surfing Coach, Master Coach and Advanced Rescue and First Aid.

The skills needed to be a surfing instructor include a Bronze Medallion Certificate from the Australian Surf Life Saving Association, being a team oriented person, a love of outdoor work, physical fitness and good customer service skills.
