Lifeguards save lives

Going to the beach, enjoying the outdoors or using a pool is a part of every Australian's life.

We're blessed with hundreds of beaches that make the world's tourists envious. And we have the sunshine to match.

But we often take forgranted that lifeguards are always watching over us when we're at the pool and beach. They make sure our kids swim between the flags, that we caren't caught in rips or bad weather.

When it comes to surf rescue, no one does it like they do - for us locals and for tourists enjoying our waters.

For nearly 100 years, Australia’s trained surf lifesavers have been keeping us safe. They have rescued more than 500,000 people and provided first aid to a million others. Hundreds of surf lifesavers train and volunteer at local clubs - but it is also a skilled profession.
Australian Lifeguard Services (ALS) is an example of the employers that need professional lifeguards. They fulfil contracts to 65 coastal land management organisations and provide training in beach management, patrol management, first aid and emergency care, helicopters and powecraft.
