The key to success in the west

The skills shortage is a major concern for the nation and in particular, Western Australia. In the hospitality industry, a key issue is retention of apprentices.

Kate Lamont, owner of Lamont's Restaurants around WA has rallied fellow prominant chef Russell Blaikie and others to make a change for their industry.

By listening to the concerns of apprentices, they have teamed up with Siobhan Mulvey from the Department of Education and Training to create the Hospitality Program - an initiative aimed at giving apprentices a varied form of training in different locations across the state.

Kate believes this initiative is the future for training.
