Vert Design

Andrew Simpson is an Industrial Designer - seeing how people interact with certain products and re-designing them to be easier to use. He takes us through the products his company has designed, showing us the original design, the new sketches and the process of creating a funkier product. He shows us everything from a teapot that pours sideways, to a cut-out mallet.

 About Vert Design:

Vert Design is owned and run by Sydney-based industrial designer Andrew Simpson. This company combines the expertise of master glass blowers in a commercial design practice. Andrew and his team design medical equipment, furniture, sporting, electrical and consumer goods for leading Australian and international manufacturers. They also produce commissioned glass works for Galleries, collectors and commercial spaces around the globe. The company works with other skilled trades which include tool makers and injection moulders.

About the products:

Andrew takes us through several products created by Vert Design:

"Cup and Jug": A glass decanter for wine and a jug for water. It has been designed with the movements of the arm as its main consideration. The liquid goes in the top and the other end is the handle.

"Green Rice": This design replaces the need for disposable coffee cups. Each cup has a thickened ring which removes the need for the handle by providing a natural way of holding the cup that is still cool to the touch. The curve of the cup lip contours perfectly to your mouth while drinking.

"MC Mallet": This is a flat packed hammer which is fun to assemble. It is made from plantation timbers, made from local manufacturers and is fun to assemble. It measures 300 x 300. Once assembled, the mallet can be used for woodworking, cooking, furniture assembly or a child's toy. Also comes as a whale and a windvane.
