Keeping Staff Happy

SkillsOne chats to the Matheson brothers about what's it like all working together in the Manufacturing Industry. He chats to them about their training, specialisations in the industry and where they see their goals for their future.

Stoddart Sheet Metal Fabricators has a good track record when it comes to retaining staff over the years. Just ask the Matheson brothers who have been employed in the business for over twenty years.

In 1959 Tom and Albert Stoddart began their small metal fabrication business in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo. Today the Stoddart Group of companies consists of a family of solid businesses comprising Stoddart Building Products, Stoddart Metals and Stoddart Steel House Frames.

Bill Stoddart is currently the Managing Director and believes in encouraging a "family-like" atmosphere in the workplace. He ensures that there are regular family days and events to build a cohesive team environment.

Robert, Mark and Barry Matheson are all brothers working at Stoddars in different roles. Robert's son, Lee, also works on the plant floor at the Crestmead plant and has been with Stoddart since 1992. Mark is production manager and has been with Stoddart since 1998. Barry is a metal polisher and has worked with Stoddart since 2002.
