If you are interested in repairing cars, then a career in automotive may be just right for you! SkillsOne chats to head-teacher of Light Auto at Blacktown TAFE, Ron Collier, whilst being given a tour of the excellent facilities of the TAFE's vehicle workshop. We also meet star student and tradesman, Joshua Kean - who has been nominated as the apprentice of the year! The Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle) course is a vigorous training program designed for people who are interested in pursuing a career as a light vehicle mechanic, and can be done as part of an apprenticeship. Students learn how to service, repair and diagnose faults in motor vehicles weighing up to 4.5 tonnes. This is actually an area on the national skills needs list, and so are always in demand for ready and able light-vehicle workers.
