Women sought in construction industry

A new campaign has been launched in the Australian Capital Territory to try and get more women to work in the construction industry.

Women who have already made careers in construction have been enlisted as role models and feature in a specially made DVD being sent to schools.

ACT's Education and Training Minister, Andrew Barr, says the skills shortage means building companies are having to be more creative in their recruiting.

"We've heard many reports from industry leaders about particular skills and talents that women bring to their industry," he said.

"I think there is a particular emphasis now, given the national skills shortage, on attracting new people into the industry."
