Funding aims to help SA's skills crisis

More federal and state funding is being provided to help address a skills shortage in South Australia.

A $14 million, six-month program being delivered by state and federal governments is set to help people who are already in the workforce to upgrade their skills.

Employers will have to pay 10 per cent of the training costs.

SA Employment and Training Minister, Paul Caica, says a wide range of industries should benefit, offering qualifications in health, community services, agriculture, engineering, mineral exploration and defence.

"Industry is demanding highly skilled workers and this program will support employers to help loyal workers to gain the high-level skills required to take their business to the next level," the minister said.

Funding will be allocated through a contestable grants process with employers, industry bodies and enterprises. Registered training organisations are invited to apply.
