WorldSkills 2008 Nationals - Special Awards



At WorldSkills Australian National 2008 Competition, held from Fri 11th - Sun 13th July at Darling Harbour, Sydney, not only were the most skilled competitors selected by expert judges to make up the 'Skillaroos' team headed to Calgary 2009, for the International level of the competition, but there were also other special commendations and awards for the competitors.

The Evett Shield is an award for the region with the best overall score for all competitors involved in the WorldSkills Australia National Competition.

For the 2008 National WorldSkills Competition, the Winner of the Evett Shield is Tasmania. The Tasmania region also won this award at the 2006 National Competition in Melbourne. Congratulations!

Tasmania maintains the Evett Shield until the next National Competition, which is to be held in Brisbane in 2010.

Another special award is the VETiS Shield, presented to the best performing state in the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in 2008.

The winner of the VETiS Shield this year is New South Wales. Well done!

CareerOne also award the Best Performing Competitor. This year they chose Luke Davies from the Turning Category.

Luke, from the Sydney West Region, had the highest score across the 2008 WorldSkills Australia National Competition. He received his training at the Western Institute of TAFE, Meadowbank Campus, and is employed at Eddie Dobbin and Sons Engineering.

Congratulations Luke on receiving the CareerOne Best Performing Competitor in the WorldSkills Australia National Competition.
