Make 2008 your great start

2008 is already shaping up to be a huge one for SkillsOne with three lucky people winning the chance of a lifetime in our Ultimate Apprenticeship Competition! If you're thinking about a change and looking for a trade, you've come to the right place.

Congratulations to:
Kira Lee Norma, from Ridson Vale Tasmania who is off to Japan to refine her cooking skills;
Daniel Wheat from Cragie, WA who will be attending the Singapore Garden Festival; and
Matt Hibble from Biloela, Queensland who will be working alongside the Australian A1GP team in Brands Hatch, England later in the year.

No doubt all three of the winners will have an amazing time experiencing life at the pinnacle of the trade area that they have chosen to complete their apprenticeship in. We will be sure to keep you posted on their experiences when they travel overseas for their Ultimate Apprenticeship.

Pleasingly, the latest figures show that more and more people are choosing to undertake vocational training and learn a trade skill. However, with so many options available in the trade skills area, it's often hard to know just where to start. SkillsOne have a great help guide on this website to give you some helpful tips on where to start on commencing a career in trade skills.

With a new school year in progress and many of you embarking on further study or your first job search, now is the time to consider a trade. Not only will you be able to 'earn while you learn' though an apprenticeship, you'll be forging a future for yourself that is financially viable, rewarding and great for Australia's future.

Don't forget to tune into SkillsOne Television on the Aurora Channel each weekend between 2-6pm or weekdays between 9-10am and 5-6pm for all the latest on trade skills. Of course if you're not able to catch SkillsOne Television the stories are all streamed live here on the SkillsOne website.

In 2008, as always, we'd love to hear your suggestions for SkillsOne, so please email through any ideas to the team once you sign up for My SkillsOne .
