Hello everyone,
At this time of year I think it's appropriate to reflect on the year that has been and it's certainly been a successful year for The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence and SkillsOne.
In July the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence launched the SkillsOne brand and since then we have run many successful programs and campaigns which are focussed on our key objectives of raising the status of trades so that people actually consider it as a viable career path and ultimately enter the skilled trades field. In addition we've emphasised excellence in all areas - especially trades teaching and training.
Some notable highlights for the team are:
• The official launch of The Institute and SkillsOne at the Overseas Passenger Terminal with over 400 guests from Registered Training Organisations and industry to employers and career counselors;
• Two Ultimate Apprenticeship competitions, the second of which is open for entry until the 2nd of January, so make sure you get your entry in!
• The inaugural Trade Teacher of the Year Awards, congratulations again to Marion Fitzpatrick from Ryde TAFE who was named the National Teacher after winning the Hospitality Trade Teacher of the Year and the to all of the other teachers awarded within their fields;
• The establishment of the Star Rating Scheme which rates Registered Training Organisations with a one, two or three Gold Star rating to provide industry and students alike with a guide as to the RTOs delivering to their needs;
• Producing outstanding content and developing and delivering SkillsOne Television and skillsone.com.au each week.
We’ve had really positive feedback from educators, RTOs, industry, trades people, career advisors and students and their families in regard to what we’ve introduced this year and look forward to an even more successful 2008.
We look forward to continuing our work with our many industry and education partners in the new year.
Thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement, and I wish you all a very safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
Warmest regards,

Brian Wexham
